Utricularia capillacea (Yunnan, CHN)

Utricularia capillacea (frequently referenced in older literature as U. scandens) is a small, sometimes very small, annual terrestrial or subaquatic species with a wide distribution across the Old World tropics, ranging from Tropical Africa and Madagascar through India and from Southeast Asia/China to New Guinea. It is a specialist of perennially wet, sandy or peaty habitats, commonly found in marshes, rice fields, and grasslands. It is found between sea level and 2,300 m.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a 14 hour photo period at about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photo period or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I rarely fertilize, but when I do I normally spray the leaves with 500PPM MaxSea fertilizer.
