Sarracenia flava var. flava is endemic to the Southeastern United States, specifically ranging from southeastern Virginia through the Carolinas into Georgia and the Florida panhandle. Its habitat consists of open, sun-drenched wetlands, nutrient-poor bogs, and seepage slopes where it often forms dense, monotypic stands. This variety is primarily known for its tall, yellow-green pitchers featuring a distinct red blotch at the throat (the "pinstripe" or "throat patch") and its production of large, sulfur-yellow flowers that emit a strong, somewhat musky scent in early spring. This form specifically is one of the tallest Sarracenia I've ever seen, with pitchers regularly getting over 36" tall.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat moss to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I grow them outdoors in zone 8a in full sun, year-round. I don't fertilize these plants at all as they catch plenty of bugs on their own. As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors.

Please note this plant will ship potted unless you purchase a rhizome, in which case it will be bare root via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included and generally not needed for Sarracenia.  Small plants are generally first year seedlings or recent, smaller divisions and will make pitchers between 3-6". Medium plants will make 6-12" pitchers and will have 1-2 growth points. Large plants will have 1-4 growth points, are flowering size/age, and will make full size (12-36") pitchers. I try to avoid cutting any pitchers off of the plants in order to ship them.
