Sarracenia flava var. cuprea is endemic to the coastal plain of the southeastern United States, with its most significant populations concentrated in North and South Carolina. It occurs naturally in sun drenched, nutrient poor wetlands such as wet pine savannas, seepage bogs, and the mossy margins of shallow streams. This variety is primarily known for its copper top coloration, characterized by a vibrant bronze or metallic rust colored lid that develops its most intense hues when exposed to direct, full sun.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat moss to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I grow them outdoors in zone 8a in full sun, year-round. I don't fertilize these plants at all as they catch plenty of bugs on their own. As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors.

Please note this plant will ship potted unless you purchase a rhizome, in which case it will be bare root via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included and generally not needed for Sarracenia.  Small plants are generally first year seedlings or recent, smaller divisions and will make pitchers between 3-6". Medium plants will make 6-12" pitchers and will have 1-2 growth points. Large plants will have 1-4 growth points, are flowering size/age, and will make full size (12-36") pitchers. I try to avoid cutting any pitchers off of the plants in order to ship them.
