This is one of the most commonly mislabeled Drosera in cultivation. Often labeled as D. coccicaulis, which means red stem, this name is invalid as it was never described. Paul Debbert, the person who described Drosera venusta, had a plant in his open greenhouse with this name, but says D. coccicaulis never entered cultivation, and the plants people refer call by that name are actually Drosera venusta. I'll copy and paste the original message below, that a forum member emailed Paul with a picture over 20 years ago. This was Paul's response, "Your "D. coccicaulis" is D. venusta.  Back in the late 80s, when this plant first surfaced it was circulated as D. coccicaulis (though the species itself was not yet described) and most plants with this name out there today originated from this stock.  D. venusta is very variable therefore anything that looks like it probably is.  I am not aware that D. coccicaulis actually entered cultivation."

As for Drosera venusta, it is endemic to South Africa, where it grows in seepages and near streams, often found growing along side Drosera aliciae, though this one is found much less frequently. It has semi-erect leaves and has appendages at both ends of the seeds. This species can sometimes be confused for Drosera natalensis or Drosera aliciae when the plants are small or not getting enough light.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat moss to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a 14 hour photoperiod at about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photoperiod or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I normally spray the leaves with 1,000-2,500PPM MaxSea fertilizer weekly, or as often as I remember.

As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors. Plants are between 0.5-1" in size. Please note this plant will ship potted via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. Please make sure to add one of these options before completing your purchase to be eligible for live arrival guarantee if your day time temperatures are below 45°F.
