Drosera burmannii (Beerwah, QLD, AUS)
Drosera burmannii is an extremely small rosetted sundew native to India, Southeast Asia, northern Australia, and South America, where it grows in open, seasonally wet sandy or lateritic soils. It forms a flat rosette of bright green to red leaves known for their extremely rapid snap response, adapted to exposed habitats that dry between rains. It is distinguished from similar species by its very short petioles (that's an understatement), broad triangular lamina, and notably fast-moving marginal tentacles. This wanna-be pygmy sundew is barely half an inch in diameter fully grown and has an extremely fast tentacle response to prey. This plant is an obligate annual, meaning it dies after flowering. Worry not, it will produce enough seeds to give you 50 new plants on its way out!
Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a 14 hour photoperiod at about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photoperiod or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I normally spray the leaves with 1,000-2,500PPM MaxSea fertilizer weekly, or as often as I remember.
Please note this plant will ship potted via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. Please make sure to add one of these options before completing your purchase to be eligible for live arrival guarantee if your day time temperatures are below 50°F. You will receive a plant that is ~0.5" in diameter.
