Utricularia heterosepala is a small, mat-forming subaquatic perennial endemic to the Philippines, specifically recorded on the islands of Luzon, Palawan, and Sibuyan. This species is specialized to wet forest habitats, typically found growing on stones in the forest or in the shallow water of streams and creeks at low to medium altitudes. The inflorescences are erect, reaching up to 15 cm, and produce 3–12 flowers that are white, pink, pale blue, or violet (never yellow). It is uniquely characterized within its section by the complete absence of bracteoles and its markedly unequal calyx lobes, where the lower lobe is considerably longer than the upper, reaching up to 6 mm in fruit. In its natural environment, it is most frequently found growing in direct association with Utricularia striatula, but it is distinguished from the latter by its galeate (helmet-shaped) lower corolla lip and its subulate, widely diverging spur. Plants may or may not be flowering at the time of purchase. You will receive a 1" plug of this Utricularia.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 3:1 peat to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a 14 hour photo period at about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photo period or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I rarely fertilize, but when I do I normally spray the leaves with 500PPM MaxSea fertilizer.

Please note this plant will ship bare root via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. Please make sure to add one of these options before completing your purchase to be eligible for live arrival guarantee if your day time temperatures are below 45°F.
