Utricularia barkeri (Langi Ghiran, Victoria, AUS) seeds
Utricularia barkeri is a perennial terrestrial bladderwort endemic to Southern Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania. It grows in coastal and lowland wet-sand swamps and heath soakages and is closely related to U. dichotoma. It forms small terrestrial mats in seasonally inundated sandy soils or ephemeral wetlands, sending up slender scapes with 1–3 light mauve flowers speckled on the upper lip and a flared lower corolla. It is distinguished from relatives in the U. dichotoma complex by its basiolute bracts and the speckled (not striped) upper corolla. Plants may or may not be flowering at the time of shipment.
Seeds from the Utricularia genus are extremely small, ranging between 0.25 and 1mm. Germination can take anywhere from 7-180 days, but generally occur within the first two months under optimal conditions. Cold stratification is not needed. I recommend sowing on a mix of washed peat moss and keep them in high humidity until they sprout.
You will receive either an entire pod, or 20 seeds, whichever is greater. Seeds are wrapped in an origami paper envelope and put into a small plastic baggie. Please be careful when opening the packets as the seeds are extremely small (see photo(s)) Seeds are shipped in a padded, tracked envelope without a heat pack. I do not offer untracked shipping for seeds at this time.
