Ficus pumila, commonly known as the Creeping Fig, is a vigorous, perennial woody evergreen vine endemic to East Asia, specifically China, Japan, and Vietnam. It exhibits a remarkable growth habit characterized by leaf dimorphism, where the plant produces two distinct types of foliage depending on its maturity. In its juvenile stage, it forms a dense, creeping mat of tiny, heart-shaped leaves that press flat against surfaces using powerful adhesive rootlets. As the plant reaches the top of its support or matures, it develops "adult" woody branches with much larger, leathery, elliptic leaves and produces pear-shaped, non-edible syconia (figs).

In its natural habitat, Ficus pumila thrives in warm, humid subtropical environments, often found scrambling over rocks, tree trunks, and forest floors. It is highly adaptable and has become a popular (and sometimes invasive) landscaping plant in Mediterranean and tropical climates worldwide due to its ability to cover vertical walls in a seamless "green carpet." While it prefers moist, well-drained soil, its mature woody form is surprisingly drought-tolerant once established.

As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors. I grow these plants in vivariums between 68-83°F and in high humidity (90%+). don't recommend growing any of my terrarium plants outside of terrariums.

Please note this plant will ship bare root via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. Please make sure to add one of these options before completing your purchase to be eligible for live arrival guarantee if your temperatures are below 50°F.
