Drosera spatulata (Mt. Arthur, NZL)

One of the most widespread sundews, originally discovered in Tasmania, Australia, today it is also known to New Zealand, Malaysia, China, and Japan. This adaptable terrestrial species grows in wet, peaty or sandy soils. It forms flat rosettes of spoon-shaped leaves that blush red under strong light and bears graceful pink to white flowers on tall, slender scapes, often blooming multiple times a year in cultivation. This form of D. spatulata is likely one of the smallest, if not the smallest, of all the spatulata in cultivation. These plants measure barely an inch fully grown, and they sport an unusually short inflorescence that typically only has a single flower. This plant looks more similar to a pygmy sundew than a spatulata, in my opinion.

As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors. Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a 14 hour photoperiod at about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photoperiod or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I normally spray the leaves with 1,000-2,500PPM MaxSea fertilizer weekly, or as often as I remember.
