Drosera regia (Latin for "royal") is a large, perennial, erect leaved sundew endemic to a single valley in the Baviaanskloof Mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa. It is a relictual species, often considered the most primitive member of the genus, inhabiting high altitude peaty seeps and stream margins at approximately 500 to 900 m. It thrives in cool, feynbos-type environments with constant water seepage and high light.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 2:1 perlite to long fiber sphagnum moss. I do not keep this plant sitting in a tray of water; but rather I water it more like a Nepenthes, about every 2-3 days. I use water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a natural photoperiod, ranging from 8-16 hours a day, depending on the time of year. The plants get about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photoperiod or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I normally spray the leaves with 1,000-2,500PPM MaxSea fertilizer weekly, or as often as I remember. I grow it in cool intermediate conditions.

As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors. Plants are between 2-3" in height. Please note this plant will ship potted via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. Please make sure to add one of these options before completing your purchase to be eligible for live arrival guarantee if your day time temperatures are below 45°F.
