Drosera paleacea is a perennial, rosetted pygmy sundew endemic to the Southwest of Western Australia, ranging from the Perth region south toward Albany. It is one of the more robust species within the pygmy Drosera group, often forming a small mound or short stem over time as old leaves persist beneath the active crown. The species is characterized by its densely packed rosette of tiny, circular leaves on long petioles and a conspicuous center of silvery-white stipules (bristle-like structures) that protect the growing point, giving the plant a "chaffy" or frosted appearance.

In its natural habitat, D. paleacea thrives in sandy soils, laterite gravel, and heathlands that experience wet winters and harsh, dry summers. To survive the drought, it produces specialized asexual buds called gemmae during the cooler months. It produces small, white (or occasionally pink-tinted) flowers on relatively short, wiry scapes. It is most closely related to and often confused with Drosera roseana, but can be distinguished by its floral morphology and its tendency to form slightly more elevated stems compared to the flatter rosettes of D. roseana.

This offer includes a packet of 12 gemmae per order. Each gemmae will form one individual plant. Gemmae are wrapped in a wet paper towel and placed into a into a small plastic baggie to maintain humidity. Some of them may sprout in transit, this is normal. Gemmae are tiny ranging between 0.25 and 3mm. I recommend using a small pair of tweezers or a toothpick to place them gently on top of a mixture of 1:1 peat moss and quartz sand. New plantlets typically sprout within 3-10 days. Do not let them dry out until the new plants are established. Higher humidity can help prevent them from drying out. Please be careful when opening the packets as the gemmae are extremely small (see photo(s)) and will often stick to your fingers.

Gemmae are shipped in a padded, tracked envelope without a heat pack, or in a box if a heat pack is needed. Please add a heat pack if your night time temperatures are below 40F. I cannot guarantee live arrival of gemmae if your temperatures are too low and a heat pack was not included. I do not offer untracked shipping for gemmae at this time.
