Drosera grievei gemmae
Drosera grievei is a small, perennial pygmy sundew endemic to the South West of Western Australia, primarily restricted to hilly inland areas near, and W/NW of Ravensthorpe. It inhabits sandy clay soils, frequently associated with lateritic gravel and heathland vegetation. This species can be distinguished from all other species by its broadly obovate sepals that often overlap each other. The flowers are typically white with either a white or pink ovary. D. grievei is named after the late botany professor, Brian John Grieve, whom produced the book series “How to Know Western Australian Wildflowers”.
The nature of the gemmae lends these to grow beautifully in small colonies. I recommend sowing in taller pots as pygmy Drosera have tiny, thin, fragile roots and when disturbed have a tendency to die. As a result, repotting is generally not recommended unless you are slip-potting them. Gemmae are identical clones of the parent plants. They are not like seeds, so do not expect genetic diversity if purchasing gemmae.
This offer includes a packet of 12 gemmae per order. Each gemmae will form one individual plant. Gemmae are wrapped in a wet paper towel and placed into a into a small plastic baggie to maintain humidity. Some of them may sprout in transit, this is normal. Gemmae are tiny ranging between 0.25 and 3mm. I recommend using a small pair of tweezers or a toothpick to place them gently on top of a mixture of 1:1 peat moss and quartz sand. New plantlets typically sprout within 3-10 days. Do not let them dry out until the new plants are established. Higher humidity can help prevent them from drying out. Please be careful when opening the packets as the gemmae are extremely small (see photo(s)) and will often stick to your fingers.
Gemmae are shipped in a padded, tracked envelope without a heat pack. Please add a heat pack if your night time temperatures are below 40F. I cannot guarantee live arrival of gemmae if your temperatures are too low and a heat pack was not included. I do not offer untracked shipping for gemmae at this time.
Any photos of plants are representative of what a mature plant/leaves/flower, etc. may look like for reference only. Pictures of seeds are to show the size of seeds from this species. Any photos of seeds are representative of what you will receive and they are not exact seeds you will receive.
