Drosera floridana seeds

Drosera floridana (previously filiformis var. floridana, elevated to species rank in August 2026), is a perennial, thread leaf sundew endemic to a highly restricted range in the Florida Panhandle, specifically found in Washington and Bay Counties. It is a specialist of white-sand lake margins and specialized seepage bogs where it grows in seasonally fluctuating water levels on bare, wet sand or thin peat. Unlike the typical variety, it thrives in a subtropical climate and does not require the prolonged, deep freeze dormancy typical of its northern relatives. It typically only needs a dormancy for two months of the year, typically January and February. This variety is distinguished by its distinctive red to maroon coloration and its unique growth habit; it remains significantly smaller than D. tracyi and D. filiformis, with leaves usually reaching only 8" in height (though it can get taller). Another unique morphological feature is the retention of active leaves late into the season, forming a much smaller, less hairy hibernaculum compared to the northern varieties.

Seeds from the Drosera genus are extremely small, ranging between 0.25 and 3mm. Germination can take anywhere from 7-180 days, but generally occur within the first two weeks under optimal conditions. Cold stratification is not needed. I recommend sowing on a mix of washed peat moss and keep them in high humidity until they sprout. 

This offer includes a packet of 50+ seeds per order. Seeds are wrapped in an origami paper envelope and put into a small plastic baggie. Please be careful when opening the packets as the seeds are extremely small (see photo(s)) Seeds are shipped in a padded, tracked envelope without a heat pack. I do not offer untracked shipping for seeds at this time.
