Drosera filiformis var. floridana
Drosera filiformis var. floridana is a perennial, thread leaf sundew endemic to a highly restricted range in the Florida Panhandle, specifically found in Washington and Bay Counties. It is a specialist of white-sand lake margins and specialized seepage bogs where it grows in seasonally fluctuating water levels on bare, wet sand or thin peat. Unlike the typical variety, it thrives in a subtropical climate and does not require the prolonged, deep freeze dormancy typical of its northern relatives. This variety is distinguished by its distinctive red to maroon coloration and its unique growth habit; it remains significantly smaller than D. tracyi and D. filiformis var. filiformis, with leaves usually reaching only 8" in height. Another unique morphological feature is the retention of active leaves late into the season, forming a much smaller, less hairy hibernaculum compared to the northern varieties.
Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat moss to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I grow them outdoors in zone 8a in full sun, year-round. I don't fertilize these plants at all as they catch plenty of bugs on their own.
Please note this plant will ship potted via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. If purchasing between November and February you will receive a dormant hibernaculum. If you order in March the plants will just be waking up. April-October will be 2-3" tall plants.
Any photos of plants are representative of what a mature plant/leaves/flower, etc. may look like for reference only. Pictures of seeds are to show the size of seeds from this species. Any photos of seeds are representative of what you will receive and they are not exact seeds you will receive. You will receive a plant at least 3-4" tall or 3-4" in diameter when not dormant.
