Drosera filiformis var. filiformis is a large, perennial, erect-leaved sundew native to the Atlantic Coastal Plain (Nova Scotia to North Carolina, with disjuncts in FL). It inhabits open, wet, nutrient-poor sandy soils, such as pond margins and seepage bogs in Florida, but Sphagnum and more typical bogs in the northern populations.

It is distinguished by tall, thread-like leaves, 6-13" tall, covered in intense red/purple glandular hairs. Its most unique morphological feature is the woolly, silver-haired hibernaculum it forms to survive freezing winters. It is frequently compared to D. tracyi, but var. filiformis is smaller, deeply pigmented red, and highly cold-tolerant, and has longer tentacles.

Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat moss to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I grow them outdoors in zone 8a in full sun, year-round. I don't fertilize these plants at all as they catch plenty of bugs on their own.

Please note this plant will ship potted via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. If purchasing between November and February you will receive a dormant hibernaculum. If you order in March the plants will just be waking up. April-October will be 2-3" tall plants.

Any photos of plants are representative of what a mature plant/leaves/flower, etc. may look like for reference only. Pictures of seeds are to show the size of seeds from this species. Any photos of seeds are representative of what you will receive and they are not exact seeds you will receive. You will receive a plant at least 3-4" tall or 3-4" in diameter when not dormant.
