Drosera adelae
One of the four (previously three) Queensland sisters, Drosera adelae is endemic to Queensland, Australia and known to have a range from Kennedy to Halifax, including Hinchinbrook Island. This species, while growing in lowland, tropical conditions, can actually go dormant. It will die back to its roots during the dry season, and return from just the roots. The roots are actually where a significant portion of new plants come from for this species, as it prolifically reproduces through root propagation, even when the root is still attached to the main plant. This species can tolerate between full sun and forest understory getting barely any sun. The main difference will be in how the leaves are presented. They will be wider and shorter when in shade, and in full sun they will be longer, more narrow, and a reddish orange color. This species is a perfect terrarium plant and I grow it in several of my Geosesarma sp. vivariums.
As always, plants can look different with different amounts of light. The plants you receive may be a slightly different color than what is shown, either more colorful or more green depending on a variety of factors. Care for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I use a 14 hour photoperiod at about 250 PPFD, but you can use a natural photoperiod or anywhere from 10-16 hours. I normally spray the leaves with 1,000-2,500PPM MaxSea fertilizer weekly, or as often as I remember.
Please note this plant will ship potted via USPS Priority Mail. Heat packs are not automatically included. I offer a 72 and 96 hour heat pack as additions. Please make sure to add one of these options before completing your purchase to be eligible for live arrival guarantee if your day time temperatures are below 50°F.
