Unlike the typical variety, it thrives in a subtropical climate and does not require the prolonged, deep freeze dormancy typical of its northern relatives. It typically only needs a dormancy for two months of the year, typically January and February. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis variety is distinguished by its \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edistinctive red to maroon coloration\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e and its unique growth habit; it remains significantly smaller than \u003cem\u003eD. tracyi\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eD. filiformis\u003c\/em\u003e, with leaves usually reaching only 8\" in\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e height (though it can get taller). Another unique morphological feature is the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eretention of active leaves late into the season\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, forming a much smaller, less hairy hibernaculum compared to the northern varieties.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCare for this carnivorous plant is simple. I recommend using a mix of 1:1 peat moss to perlite, using the tray method to keep the substrate constantly wet with water under 50 PPM TDS. I grow them outdoors in zone 8a in full sun, year-round.
